Barr. Rilwanu Umar was born on July 30, 1978, in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, to Alhaji Umaru Tanimu and Hajiya Aisha Galadima.

He attended G.R.A Primary School and Model Primary School, then proceeded to Halliru Abdu Arabic Secondary School, where he obtained his SSCE in 1995, Later joined to studied law at Usmanu Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, and graduated with an LLB in 2002.

He attended the Nigerian Law School, Abuja Campus, and was called to the Bar in 2004, and completed his NYSC in 2005 and worked with K.T Turaki SAN & Co. and Chief Adetunji Fadairo, SAN & Co.

Barr L. Umar Esq. participated in the institute of chartered arbitrators north America branch where he gained his membership of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, North America in 2010, which automatically make him member of his country of domicile Nigeria, thereby making him qualified lawyer.

In 2012, Rilwanu Umar established his own law office, Rilwanu Umar & Co. Hence a member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association, and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

The Legal practitioner in his expedition and pursuant of more educational qualification proceeded for his Postgraduate studies at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he obtained his Masters in International Affairs and Diplomacy in 2015/2016

Rilwanu Umar has received numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to the legal profession and society.

He attended the course at Institute of Management Consultant in 2020 as well as the Institute of Management Specialist (United Kingdom), where he obtained a Masters Class Certificate in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

Barr Lurwanu Umar also attended the London Graduate School, United Kingdom and obtained masters class certificate in business management & leadership in the year 2019/2020 session and was conferred with honored Doctors of Laws (LLD) (Honoris Causa) by commonwealth university United Kingdom on the 27th October 2020.

He has held various leadership positions, including President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society and National President of the Kebbi Youth Political Circle Association.

He is a fellow Chartered Institute of Management Consultant since 2020, as well a Fellow Chartered Institute of Management specialist the United Kingdom since 2021. He is also a fellow Center of Productivity and Development since 2023.

The Veteran Lawyer is married with two wives and four children and enjoys reading, traveling, and meeting new people.

It is interesting to note that Rilwanu Umar Esq because of his exemplary sterling qualities, humility, dedication to service to humanity and his philanthropic work to his Gwandu emirate and Kebbi state and Nigeria in general, the highly respected revered emir of Gwandu Maj. Gen. Muhammadu iliyasu Bashar CFR Mni chairman Kebbi State Council of chief conferred on him the first ever Kachallan Gwandu since the year 2021.

He is the Kachallan Gwandu conferred by Emir of Gwandu, The Chairman Kebbi State Traditional Council of Chiefs from 2021 to date.

He was conferred with the title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on September 30, 2024, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the legal profession.
