It’s dampening and disappointing that some myopic, monetized, and purchased media influencers with clueless and baseless unverifiable facts borrowed the street phrase and began to castigate the goodwill of the executive governor of Kano state in the act of relocating GGSS Maikwatashi to a new environment.

The people of Kaura Goje, Nassarawa Local Government, and neighboring communities stand in deep appreciation of His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for rightly fulfilling his campaign promise and relocating Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) Maikwatashi from the Sabon Gari area to Kaura Goje ward. This bold and visionary move is not just a relocation but rather a restoration of dignity, accessibility, and safety for our daughters.

The community was overwhelmed with the development, and they extended their heartfelt gratitude to the Kano State Government for listening to their cries and acting decisively. For years, Kaura Goje and surrounding areas like GETSI, GAYAWA, RIMIN KEBE, GAWUNA, GAMA, GWAGWARWA, and RIGA have suffered from the absence of accessible schools for their adolescent girls. This relocation brings education closer to thousands of students from Nassarawa, Ungogo, and Fagge Local Governments, respectively, many of whom previously had to travel long distances under unsafe conditions.

The former location of GSSS Maikwatashi in Sabon Gari was plagued by serious challenges, ranging from distance to the access communities, as the school is located outside the Hausa-speaking communities, who form the majority of the student population, thus making transportation to the school very costly and unreliable for many families; most critically, the area became a hotspot for criminal activities. Youth gangs turned the school vicinity into a haven for drug trading and harassment. On their way back home, female students routinely faced intimidation, had their phones stolen, and received threats. The relocation was not just a logistical issue; it was a matter of safety and survival, and hence, it was a lifeline, especially for the girl’s child’s education.

It is deeply unfortunate that certain members of the APC groups and other so-called media influencers known to be monetized have thrown a media sabotage campaign and chosen to politicize this noble initiative, falsely claiming that the school was “sold” rather than relocated;this was not only false but malicious. The acts of media sabotage aiming to undermine progress and sow confusion among the good people of Kano State reflect a disturbed state of mind.

We vehemently condemn these attempts to derail a project that is clearly in the public interest; as such, their voices are not defenders of truth but rather the enemies of progress. Their actions reveal a disregard for the safety and education of our children and a desperate attempt to score political points at the expense of community welfare.

We call on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to remain steadfast and ignore the noise of detractors. We urge the government to ensure the land acquired in exchange for the former school will havea modern constructed school that will be equipped with adequate classrooms, laboratories, toilets, and security infrastructure to support the growing student population. The project will not only support education but also create more employment opportunities for local artisans, builders, and vendors.

The relocation has been a long-standing demand of the community, not a sudden or politically motivated decision. We reiterate that the relocation followed due process and was based on community consultations, not a sale or privatization. We call on all well-meaning citizens of Kano State to rise above political differences and support initiatives that benefit the people, especially the youth.

The AKY is known as a man of a single word, one who does not bow to media pressure or political blackmail. His commitment to the people of Kano is evident, and this relocation is a shining example of leadership that listens and acts.

We also salute the resilience of our community members who fought tirelessly to see this dream become reality. Their doggedness, unity, and unwavering belief in the power of education have brought us to this moment. We are at the same time encouraging them to take ownership of the school and protect it from vandalism or misuse, ensuring it remains a safe haven for learning.

With GSSS Maikwatashi now in Kaura Goje, we look forward to a future where girls can leam without fear, where education is within reach, and where the government continues to prioritize the needs of its people over political distractions.

Long live the Kano State Government.

The government the has passion for education.
