In line with its commitment to uphold integrity and accountability within the state health sector, the Kano State Hospitals Management Board has taken decisive disciplinary measures following the outcomes of a Disciplinary Advisory Committee (DAC) meeting held on 22nd July, 2025.
The meeting was convened to investigate 22 reported cases of fraudulent activities, mischievous acts, and stealing involving staff members across various state hospitals. These reports were received between 24th October, 2023, and 11th July, 2025, following communications from the Office of the Chief of Staff and the Office of the Head of Service. The actions are in response to persistent public outcry calling for urgent intervention to restore the lost glory of the health sector after prolonged neglect in previous administrations.
Part of the findings from the DAC include, Cases of Stealing where Several members of staff were found guilty of stealing hospital properties and patients’ belongings, including medical supplies and equipment. Fraudulent Activities where also Some staff falsified records and submitted false claims for personal benefit as well as Mischievous Acts in Instances of absenteeism, negligence of duty, and other forms of misconduct were documented.
Further more, the Recommendations approved by the Board are Dismissal and Prosecution in which Staff found guilty of stealing and fraudulent activities will be dismissed and prosecuted accordingly, Disciplinary Actions to be taken on those involved in mischievous acts and will face disciplinary measures, including suspension and demotion.
The committee advised that the Implementation plans should include Immediate execution of disciplinary actions against implicated staff members, Strengthening of internal controls across state hospitals and Organizing training on ethics and accountability for all staff.
The Board assures the general public and all stakeholders of its unwavering commitment to ensuring accountability and restoring public trust in Kano State Hospitals. These steps are part of the wider reforms championed by the present administration to reposition the health sector for effective service delivery to the people of Kano State.
