Federal Gov, Renames University Of Maiduguri As Muhammadu Buhari University Of Maiduguri

In memory of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, the federal government has renamed the University of Maiduguri as Muhammadu Buhari University of Maiduguri. In announcing the change of name of the University, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa thanked President Bola Tinubu for imortalising the memory of the great African Icon, Muhammadu Buhari, “on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Education and the entire Nigerian education sector, I extend profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his statesmanlike decision to immortalise the late President Muhammadu Buhari through the renaming of the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, as Muhammadu Buhari University of Maiduguri.”

The Minister made the announcement at a special session of the expanded Federal Executive Council, FEC, convened on Thursday by President Tinubu to honour the legacy of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

President Bola Tinubu who paid glowing tribute, chronicled the life and service of the late statesman. He particularly highlighted Buhari’s commitment to national security, institutional reform, economic recovery, and anti-corruption efforts.

Other distinguished national leaders, including the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas; Governors, Ministers, and Heads of Service of the Federation paid their heartfelt tributes.

Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Buhari, spoke heartily on behalf of the Buhari family, commended President Bola Tinubu and the entire Nigerians for honouring the memory of his late father in death as though alive.

Buhari’s second coming as a democratically elected president of Nigeria lasted from 2015 to 2023, when he officially handed over to the incumbent President Bola Tinubu won the 2023 presidential election on the banner of the ruling All Progressives Party, APC.

Buhari’s administration was marked by notable reforms in national security, anti-corruption, infrastructure, agriculture, and human capital development. Some of them are Anchor Borrowers’ Programme, TSA, ERGP, and social investment schemes. They all significantly contributed to national progress.

The Ministry of Education is deeply honoured that the sector has been chosen as the channel through which the late President’s legacy will be permanently enshrined. The minister Dr. Alausa notes, “President Tinubu’s decision reflects not only deep empathy and respect but also a firm belief in education as the bedrock of national development. His commitment to human capital development is unwavering and consistent with the path of national renewal that President Buhari championed.”

This symbolic gesture underscores the administration’s recognition of education as a cornerstone for sustainable development and national identity. The Ministry reiterates its commitment to upholding the values of service, integrity, and excellence that both late President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu exemplify.” It concludes.
