The Kano State Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, has called upon the Kano Online Media Guild to adhere to journalistic ethics and utilize their skills and platforms to disseminate accurate information.
Alfijir labarai reports that the commissioner made these remarks during a one-day capacity-building workshop for journalists in Kano.
He stressed the importance of combatting fake news associated with online media and emphasized the difference between trained journalists and others.
“I extend my congratulations to the Online Media Guild and assure you of our support. Wherever we can assist, we will do so,” he stated.
In a remark, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, highlighted the positive relationship between the government and the media.
He praised the association for offering a platform for professional growth.
“We value the online media presence at the Kano Government House.
“We will revisit the issue of Retainership with the Online Media Guild,” Dawakin Tofa said.
On his part, Abdullateef Abubakar Jos, the interim chairman of the association, described the Online Media Guild as a group of journalists operating online, with members nationwide and headquartered in Kano.
He emphasized their dedication to promoting ethical journalism and delivering accurate news.
The workshop aimed to elevate professional standards and encourage responsible reporting among journalists.
At the workshop’s conclusion, participants were awarded certificates in recognition of their successful completion of the one-day capacity-building program.
